Happy Independence Day

If you are a citizen of the United States, today is a day to reflect on where we have come from and where we are going.  If you are anything like me, you are great full for those who came before and did most of the heavy lifting while being concerned about the future.

What concerns me the most are the hyper partisans on both sides.  Unfortunately they seem to have big mouths and an audience that listens intently.  As we have seen in the past, it only takes one nut case with a gun to act out, thinking he is doing the world a favor.

This morning, I asked my wife what she thought the founding fathers would think of the country today.  ”They would be surprised that a black man was president” was the reply.  Indeed they would, at least some of them.  I think they would have a mixture of pride and disappointment.  Pride because the experiment is still going and has done well for itself.  Disappointment over a certain amount of greed and corruption, something they themselves understood and fought against.

There is more work to do.  Today, enjoy the parades, cookouts and fireworks.  Tomorrow start thinking about what you can do to improve things in your town, state, and so on.  We are all in this together.
