First batch of Homebrewed Beer, we hardly new ye

Working around the basement this morning I realized that I had just one bottle of my first batch of homebrewed beer left.  It was barely 2 months old.  We made a large dent in the supply last weekend during a cookout at Mike and Debbie’s house.  While there, I received some pretty good feed back, [...]

Enjoying the Homebrewed Bitter

We came back from our vacation about a week ago.  I am still trying to catch up at work.  While my employer calls it “vacation time” it is more like an “allowed absence.”  I say this because while I am away enjoying myself, nobody is here doing my work, which means that it just piles [...]

Bottling the bitter

Yesterday, I awoke and decided it was time to check the specific gravity of my homebrewed bitter.  It was 1.011 so bottling time was at hand.  Using the Alcohol by Volume formula:

OG-FG/0.00738+(carbonation) 0.5 = % alcohol

Where: OG-Original Gravity FG- Final Gravity

Therefore, 1.038-1.011=.027 then .027/0.00738=3.7 then 3.7+0.5=4.19% alcohol. Slightly high for a bitter, [...]

I cracked open my first home brewed beer yesterday…

And…

Bottling Day

I woke up on Saturday and said “Today is the day I bottle my first batch of home brewed beer.” All week I have been watching the fermenter bubble away, it was exciting to say the least. First, I need to check the specific gravity to make sure it is ready. Opps, specific gravity is [...]

This is a rather grainy one minute video of [...]

Home Brewed Beer

I was so inspired by Jay and his home brewed beer experience that I decided to try it myself. I purchased the Cooper’s Home Brewing kit on line and received it a while ago. I haven’t used it yet because the temperatures have been too cold (it has to be between 70-80° Fahrenheit to maintain [...]
