Jay has been pestering politely inquiring about the progress on the deck. Even I thought it would be done by now, but it is coming along. I flashed around the house and I have most of the deck lumber screwed on. This weekend I ran out of time due to social obligations and lumber due to poor material estimation.

I will be working on it again after work today.
Update:
A little something to keep those interested happy… somehow this happened:

A few things that I noticed; it is bigger than I thought it would be! That is nice because normally when you build something, everyone stands around and scratches their heads and says “It is smaller than I thought it would be.” Also, screwing those boards down is a lot of work. Mostly bending over, which at 43 years old, my back does not like to do all that much of.
I will do a finishing post about the railing, the steps etc once I get the railing, the steps, etc done.

You need to take some material estimation classes.
Next time I am driving by the college campus, I will keep that in mind.
The decks looking good! Isn’t it amazing how little time we really have on the weekends to get anything done. After all the family and friend obligations it sure doesn’t leave much time.
BTW, the new layout on the site looks great. I wish I had the patience to redo mine but I hardly have enough time to put posts up these days.
Thanks, Todd! The deck looks simple to build, not really rocket science, but it is a lot of labor. I would say the a good contractor earns every penny he is paid.
The website template was pretty easy to work with. I love Wordpress for its functionality and ease of use. It does take a little bit to learn the software, fooling around with style sheets and PHP can be a bit daunting, but I learned a few things and I like the result.
